It's About Thyme

It's been awhile since a new plant page has been added, and due to requests I am back on task with a couple new pages. Learning how to grow thyme can hopefully be made easier with the addition of this new resource.

We are looking for ways in which people use thyme in preparations such as soaps or herbal mixes and remedies. If you have any known uses for thyme in a non-culinary manner please comment here and let us know. If you have a recipe featuring thyme we'd like to hear that, too.

A Rose By Any Other Name

Close your eyes. Imagine a velvety rose and imagine that scent. You can, can't you? Few smells evoke the memory more than a sweet rose. It's a scent we simply never forget.

Many folks think that roses in the garden are more work than pleasure, but that's not really true. I have written a small article about roses in the garden that touches only very lightly on the subject. I expect at some point to do a full blown plant page or section of pages for roses, so much of the information about site selection, cultivar options and maintenance will have to wait for that endeavor. However, the article does offer some tips and so I hope you find it helpful.

Gold Award

Awhile back I mentioned we were nominated for a World Wide Web Award. Today we recieved notice that we have been selected for a Gold Award.

From their site they describe sites that earn a Gold Award as:

The Gold Award represents Web Presence at its best. To achieve this award is truly an honor. The winning site has scored between 90 and 100 points, which was not an easy task. A Gold award winning site is error free from broken links and error messages of any kind. Correct use of Meta tags and ALT tags have been used, which most search engines have picked up on "keywords" used in the "Meta Tags". This site uses advanced features, scripts and coding. Graphic Design is of the highest quality and original works of art, created by the site designer. The Gold Award site represents at least 95 percent of original content and creativity and provides outstanding design and layout of website. Its content is something that will interest any and all visitors, who visit their site.

Thanks go out to all who have participated by contributing content to the site and ideas and hard work. We look forward to being able to grow the site and our community even further this year and to that end will soon be expanding our team here at Garden-Helper.com to include another very talented programmer.

The site award will be displayed on the About Us page soon.

Holiday hustle and January Gardening

Well it has been awhile since updates have made their way to the site. A number of holidays ate the free time available for such things, but those days are now bygone.

Perhaps my New Years resolution ought to have been to deliver things on time.

Lucky for me I did not break any resolutions by delivering the January Gardening Calendar ten days too late. Also lucky for me there will likely be another January next year. In fact I am simply going to consider this the January 2007 gardening calendar 355 days early.
