Planting in March

What to Plant in March

March brings with it the start of the growing season in many parts of the country. For others it brings hints of spring but at least a chance to start indoors or in coldframes. Getting as early a start as possible on this years' garden improves your chances of a more bountiful harvest, more time outdoors and a richer, fuller growing season. For best growth, many flowering plants benefit by being started this month either directly, through transplanting or by plant division. For some regions, March or even April is the earliest you can get outside to work the garden soil. For other areas, March is teh harbinger of time for getting plants well established for their summer growth.

We have compiled this list of plants to be started, divided, sown, transplated or otherwise grown in March. Taken alongside the March gardening calendar we hope this helps to provide much of the information you need to be successful this month. As always we continue to create new Plant Pages and eventually will offer information on every plant we have in our monthly planting guides.
